Saints Cyril and Methodius were honoured in Zalavár, Hungary

For more than 20 years, the Slovak Self-Government to the City of Budapest, headed by its chairwoman Edita Hortiová, has been organising a pilgrimage to Zalavár-Blatnohrad for Slovaks living in Budapest and its surroundings. Here, at the end of the 9th century, Saints Cyril and Methodius worked, taught and translated parts of the Bible and biblical articles into Old Church Slavonic. It is one of the most important feasts of the Slovak community, a celebration of the Slovaks and their ancestors. After the singing of the Slovak and Hungarian anthems, the participants moved to the local church, where a Slovak Mass and a concert by the Ozvena choir took place.

The Treasury of Great Moravia was ceremonially opened in Modrá, Czechia

The Treasury of Great Moravia, built at a cost of almost CZK 70 million, was opened on June 20 in the Archaeological Open-Air Museum in Modrá near Velehrad (Czechia) in the presence of distinguished guests and on June 26 welcomed its first public visitors. It takes the form of an underground pantheon, into which daylight penetrates only through a small bell tower that can be seen on the surface. The most precious originals or scientific copies of objects from graves in the territory, such as Uherské Hradiště-Sady, Staré Město, Modrá, Mikulčice or Pohansko near Břeclav, are displayed in bulletproof cases and under the strictest security system.

The pilot exhibition is entitled The Elites of Great Moravia. "It presents magnificent, often unique archaeological finds from the burial sites of the central Great Moravian fortifications, which are often associated with representatives of the highest social class of early medieval Moravia - princes, grandees and members of their families," reveals doc. PhDr. Luděk Galuška, CSc., researcher at the Moravian Land Museum, creator of the theme, libretto and scenario of the exhibition. The exhibition is the work of the Moravian Land Museum in cooperation with the Municipality of Modrá, the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences Brno, the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University - Institute of Archaeology and Museology and the Institute of Archaeology of Slovak Academy of Sciences in Nitra. The construction and equipping of the Treasury in Modrá was realized mainly thanks to the one-year Czech-Slovak cross-border project Common Heritage from the Romans to the Jewels of Great Moravia (INTERREG V-A) and the support of the Zlín Region in the amount of CZK 8 million. The project also included the creation of the Cífer - Pác Archaeological Park in Slovakia, representing the Roman-Germanic settlement.
