Located just about 1 km southeast of the majestic Cimburk Castle ruins, this distinctive sandstone tower is more than just a geological marvel; it's a place where history, legend, and nature converge to create an unforgettable experience.
Rising approximately 8 meters from the northern slope above the Kyjovka River valley, Kazatelna stands as one of the few isolated rock “turrets” in the Chřiby, a striking contrast to the region’s more common rock blocks. Geologically, it’s a testament to the powerful forces that shaped the Western Carpathians, composed of ancient sandstones and conglomerates that whisper tales of bygone eras.
What makes Kazatelna truly unique, however, are the centuries-old steps carved directly into its upper side, leading to a small platform on the summit. Here, a double-armed cross (also known as a bishop’s or patriarchal cross), installed in 1972, proudly overlooks the landscape. Just a short distance from the majestic Buchlov Castle, nestled atop the hill locally known as Barborka, stands St. Barbara’s Chapel (Kaple svaté Barbory). This early-Baroque gem, built between 1672 and 1673, is more than just a place of worship; it is the final resting place for generations of Buchlov's noble lords, a tradition that continues to this day.
Constructed on the site of a much older early-Gothic church, the chapel’s walls whisper tales of history. The new structure even incorporated original Gothic architectural elements from its predecessor, a fascinating detail that links the present to the past. While it was intended to be part of a larger monastery that was never completed, the chapel itself is a magnificent example of early-Baroque artistry. Visitors can admire its cross-shaped floor plan, graceful dome, and three altars, all adorned with intricate geometric and plant ornaments carved in stone. The main portal proudly displays the coat of arms of its founder, Hanuš Zikmund z Petřvaldu, and his wife.

The main ridge is distinctly divided into three parts, known as Plotna, Hlavní kámen, and Východní věž. This area is not only a protected natural monument but also a popular spot for climbers, with over 30 marked routes offering a thrilling challenge amid the serene forest.
Beyond its geological significance, Břestecká Skála is a haven of biodiversity. In the heart of the Moravian countryside, a natural wonder of staggering proportions stands as a testament to both resilience and history. As you explore the villages along the Cyril and Methodius Route near the Chřiby Mountains, you'll encounter a true colossus: the Giant Sequoia of Břestek. This towering tree, originally from the forests of California, is one of the largest and oldest tree species in the world, and its presence here in the small village of Chabaně is nothing short of majestic.
Planted approximately 170 years ago, this rare specimen is believed to have been brought to Moravia by the enlightened Count Berchtold—the very same family that owned nearby Buchlov Castle and established its famous museum. While it was once part of a small grove, only this single magnificent tree survived. Its journey was not without drama; in 1972, it was struck by lightning, which destroyed its top. Yet, in a remarkable display of nature’s power, a new peak has grown, adding to its story of survival.
Standing at around 40 meters tall with a circumference of more than 6 meters, this sequoia is considered the largest of its species in Europe. Βελεγράδο – Σημαντικό προσκύνημα
Το Velehrad είναι ένας σημαντικός τόπος προσκυνήματος στην Τσεχική Δημοκρατία. Το καμάρι της ενορίας είναι η μπαρόκ βασιλική με τα παρακείμενα κτίρια του πρώην μοναστηριού των Κιστερκιανών. Το 1927 η τοπική εκκλησία έλαβε τον τίτλο και τα προνόμια μιας μικρής βασιλικής (basilica minor). Το Velehrad είναι ένας από τους σημαντικότερους τόπους προσκυνήματος στη Μοραβία. Η ιστορία του ξεκίνησε πριν από περισσότερα από 800 χρόνια, όταν οι πρώτοι 12 μοναχοί Κιστερκιανοί ήρθαν στην κοιλάδα του ποταμού Salaška για να χτίσουν το μοναστήρι τους κοντά στο χωριό Veligrad (το σημερινό Staré Město). Με βάση την τοποθεσία του το μοναστήρι πήρε το όνομά του και σύντομα έγινε φορέας μιας πολύ παλαιότερης πνευματικής παράδοσης, η οποία χρονολογείται από τον 9ο αιώνα, όταν οι Σλάβοι κήρυκες Κωνσταντίνος και Μεθόδιος ήρθαν στη Μοραβία. Ερχόμαστε εδώ για να αγγίξουμε τις ρίζες μας, όχι μόνο τις πνευματικές ρίζες, αλλά και τις εθνικές ρίζες με έναν εσωτερικό τρόπο. Το Velehrad θεωρείται επίσης ως χώρος διαλόγου μεταξύ των πολιτισμών της Ανατολής και της Δύσης.
Καθεδρικός Ναός της Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου και των Αγίων Κυρίλλου και Μεθοδίου
Η καρδιά του προσκυνηματικού τόπου Velehrad είναι η Βασιλική της Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου και των Αγίων Κυρίλλου και Μεθοδίου. Αρχικά ένα ύστερο ρωμανικό κτίριο του πρώτου τρίτου του 13ου αιώνα, πήρε μια μπαρόκ εμφάνιση ως αποτέλεσμα των καταστροφών του πολέμου και ιδιαίτερα της πυρκαγιάς του 1681. Στο εσωτερικό της πλούσια διακοσμημένης βασιλικής υπάρχουν πολλά πνευματικά σημεία εστίασης που δεν πρέπει να χάσει κανένας επισκέπτης αυτού του ιερού χώρου: Η Αγία Τράπεζα γύρω από την οποία συγκεντρώνονται οι χριστιανοί για να τελέσουν τη λειτουργία, το παρεκκλήσι της Παναγίας Μητέρας της Χριστιανικής Ενότητας με το Παλλάδιο του Velehrad, ο τάφος του Αρχιεπισκόπου Antonín Stojan στο Βασιλικό Παρεκκλήσι και, πιο πρόσφατα, η σαρκοφάγος του Καρδινάλιου Tomáš Špidlík SJ στο πρεσβυτέριο της βασιλικής, διακοσμημένη με υπέροχα ψηφιδωτά. Μπορούμε επίσης να επισημάνουμε το γλυπτό των Αγίων Κυρίλλου και Μεθοδίου στη δεξιά πλευρά της Αγίας Τράπεζας, το οποίο αγιοποίησε την αντίληψη της εικόνας των Θεσσαλών αδελφών στα μάτια των προγόνων μας, καθώς και τον πίνακα των Αγίων από τον Πολωνό ζωγράφο Matejka, που δωρήθηκε για τη βασιλική το 1885.
Πρώην κιστερκιανό μοναστήρι
Το συγκρότημα των μοναστηριακών κτιρίων περιλαμβάνει το Γυμνάσιο Stojan και το Ινστιτούτο Κοινωνικής Πρόνοιας Vincentinum. Το Κέντρο Πληροφόρησης μπορεί να κανονίσει ξενάγηση στη Salle Terrena με μπαρόκ νωπογραφίες και στη Σλαβική Αίθουσα, που βρίσκονται στο πρώην μοναστήρι.
Σάλα Τερένα
Η αίθουσα του μοναστηριού Βέλεχραντ κτίστηκε τα έτη 1724 – 1728 ως μέρος της κατασκευής της νέας ηγουμενικής κατοικίας του μοναστηριού. Η αίθουσα είναι διακοσμημένη με τοιχογραφίες που απεικονίζουν τις τέσσερις εποχές με τη μορφή αλληγορικών μορφών και μυθολογικών σκηνών. Αυτές συμπληρώνονται από αντίστοιχα βιβλικά μοτίβα.
Εκκλησία της Επιφάνειας
“Κυρίλλικα” είναι μια μικρή εκκλησία χτισμένη τον 13ο αιώνα στην πύλη του μοναστηριού για τους κατοίκους προ του μοναστηριού. Κατέστησε σε ερειπίωση τον 19ο αιώνα και αποκαταστάθηκε σε νεογοτθικό ρυθμό με αφορμή το Ιωβηλαίο των Κυρίλλου και Μεθοδίου το 1863. Το 1929, τοποθετήθηκε εικονοστάσι για να επιτραπεί η τέλεση της Ανατολικής λειτουργίας. Επί του παρόντος, το παρεκκλήσι έχει ανακαινιστεί πλήρως και φιλοξενούνται εποχιακές εκθέσεις.
Σπίτι των Αγίων Κυρίλλου και Μεθοδίου στο Βελεχράντ
Πρώην αγροτουριστικά κτίρια της Μονής Βελεγράντ. Οι χώροι της είναι προσβάσιμοι στο πλαίσιο των υπηρεσιών που προσφέρει το κτίριο (μόνιμες εκθέσεις του Μουσείου Βελεγράντ, ζαχαροπλαστείο, βιβλιοπωλείο).
Ερείπια μεσαιωνικού κιστερκιανού μοναστηριού
Χώρος, αίθουσα εκδηλώσεων, μπαρόκ κρύπτες. Ο χώρος αποτελεί μέρος της νέας έκθεσης Βελεγράδι στο Σταυροδρόμι της Ευρωπαϊκής Ιστορίας.

Το Παρεκκλήσι του Αγίου Βενδελίνου με άγαλμα του αγίου από τον F. Hirnl, μία Μπαρόκ στήλη της Παναγίας, γλυπτό του Αγίου Βερνάρδου και του Αγίου Λουτγάρδου από τον O. Schveigl, το Παρεκκλήσι του Αγίου Ιωάννη του Νέπομουκ από το 1715 δίπλα στη Μπαρόκ γέφυρα πάνω από το ρυάκι Σαλάσκα, αγάλματα του Αγίου Ιωάννη του Νέπομουκ στον δρόμο για το νεκροταφείο και στην πλατεία του χωριού, το άγαλμα του Υιού του Θεού στη διασταύρωση μεταξύ Βελεγράδου και Μόντρα (ελεύθερες, ατομικές ξεναγήσεις διαθέσιμες). Νεκροταφείο Βελεγράδου με τον τάφο του Αρχιεπισκόπου Σράμεκ, Κιστερκιανών του Βελεγράδου, Σλαβιστή J. Vašić, μοναχών, Ιησουιτών και άλλων προσωπικοτήτων.

Πώς να πάω από τη Βέλεχραντ;
Ο μόνος τρόπος για να φτάσετε από το Velehrad είναι με λεωφορείο, κατά προτίμηση για το Staré Město ή το Uherské Hradiště, από όπου μπορείτε να μετεπιβιβαστείτε σε υπεραστικές σιδηροδρομικές και λεωφορειακές γραμμές. Τις καθημερινές, το τελευταίο λεωφορείο από το Velehrad προς το Staré Město ή το Uherské Hradiště αναχωρεί στις 20:59. Τα Σαββατοκύριακα, το τελευταίο λεωφορείο αναχωρεί στις 18:22.
