Greece is the birthplace of the brothers, who were born in Thessaloniki, then a prominent center of the Byzantine Empire. Here they received a top-tier education and, through contact with the local Slavic population, a profound knowledge of the language. A journey through Greek Macedonia maps the roots of their spirituality and the cultural background from which the mission to Moravia emerged. Thessaloniki and nearby monasteries mark the start of a civilizing process that influenced all of Europe.
