Bulgaria became a vital sanctuary for the disciples expelled from Moravia, saving the Cyrillo-Methodian tradition from extinction. In the literary schools of Pliska and Preslav, the Glagolitic script was transformed into the more accessible Cyrillic, which spread from there. The country experienced a “Golden Age” of learning under the protection of Rulers Boris I and Simeon I.
