Vážení čtenáři,

Let us inform you about the events that the month of February 2024 brought to the European Cultural Route of Sts. Cyril and Methodius (ECRSCM).

Cyril and Methodius Route as a Member of the Cultural Tourism and Sustainability Working Groups

Certified Council of Europe Cultural Routes have the opportunity to participate in thematic working groups made up of representatives of each route to discuss mutual support in defined areas.

Last year, at the Advisory Forum of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe in Lodz, route managers agreed to create a new Cultural Tourism Working Group to help cultural routes develop tourism products and establish cooperation with tour operators. The Cyril and Methodius Route, together with 8 other cultural routes (Le Corbusier Destinations, Historic Cafés, Cemeteries Route, Via Regia, Via Romea Germanica, Transromanica) became a member of this working group and together they will prepare a tourism strategy or a guide for the creation of a tourism product for the Cultural Routes of Council of Europe.  The coordinator of the group is Miguel Ángel Martín Ramos, President of the Emperor Charles V Route from Yuste, Spain. The initial online meeting of this working group was held on 9 February 2024, with the aim of sharing experiences and expectations in developing the cultural tourism product. For further communication in the development of the tourism strategy, each Route sent information on the current state of operation of the tourism product.

Last year, the Cyril and Methodius Route also became a member of the Sustainability Working Group, coordinated by Stefanie Bishof, manager of the Hansa Route from Lübeck, Germany. The aim of this working group is to implement principles to increase the sustainability of cultural routes as well as environmental friendliness. For example, the group is working on guidelines for resource efficiency within the routes, awarding prizes for route sustainability activities or sharing good practices. Representatives of the ECRSCM secretariat participated in the online meeting of this working group on 28 February 2024.
