Olomouc and Trnava Regions will cooperate on the Cyril and Methodius Route

During the first week of February, an eleven-member delegation from the Trnava Region in Slovakia visited the Olomouc Region in the Czech Republic. The main and common goal was to conclude a cooperation agreement, which is the culmination of almost a year of negotiations. The signing of the document took place on Wednesday 5 February in the Festive Fresco Hall in Olomouc. The two regions plan to exchange knowledge and experience in the fields of culture, innovation and social care. They will also establish close cooperation in tourism, for example in the development of the Cyril and Methodius Route, which  goes through both regions. Read more zde.

Primary school pupils found the Glagolniczechs under the Christmas tree

Joy at Christmas was given out by the worksheets Journey to the Script with Hlaholníček (Glagolniczech), which were given to pupils of the 3rd grade of the primary school in Prague 10. This exhausted the stock of the Czech version of the worksheets created within the project Cyril and Methodius Route - Culture and Education without Borders co-financed by the Interreg VA SK-CZ programme, whose aim was to introduce the Cyril and Methodius heritage to primary school pupils - specifically the Glagolitic alphabet as the first script intended for writing the Old Slavonic language. The ECRSCM' Secretariat in Zlín still has about 300 copies of the Slovak version of the material including the methodology. If you are interested in these printed materials, please write to: info@cyril-methodius.eu. Electronic versions of the sheets are available for download zde.

Methodius anniversary

The year 2025 marks the 1140th anniversary of the death of St. Methodius, the co-patron of Europe. According to the Vita Methodii biography, Archbishop Methodius died surrounded by his disciples on April 6, 885. The funeral rites were conducted symbolically in Latin, Greek and Old Slavonic. It is not yet known where his tomb lies, but according to another biography (The Prologue to the Life of Constantine and Methodius) he was supposed to be buried in the Great Moravian temple on the left side in the wall behind the altar of the Holy Mother of God.

Archbishop Methodius with his brother Cyril were born in Thessaloniki, Greece. We apologize for the erroneous caption in the previous newsletter sent on February 13.
