We extend our warmest congratulations to our partner route, Romea Strata, on achieving the prestigious certification as a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe this year! This significant recognition, comparable to inscription on the UNESCO list, celebrates the route's vital role in preserving European cultural heritage, fostering sustainable tourism, and generating a positive economic impact for its regions.

Romea Strata, alongside its partner routes and members, celebrated this immense achievement on December 4 in Aquileia, Italy. The Cyril and Methodius Route was proudly represented by Dana Daňová, Chair of the Managing Committee, who participated in a dedicated panel discussion. During her presentation, she highlighted the successful good practices developed by the Cyril and Methodius Route, specifically focusing on innovative projects centered on cooperation with youth and artists. The presentation underscored how the Cyril and Methodius Route fulfills the core mission of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme: ensuring the vitality and accessibility of Europe’s shared cultural history.

HIKE4ALL – Pěší turistika pro VŠECHNY po kulturních trasách je navazující projekt (spin-off), který oficiálně odstartuje v lednu 2026 a do kterého se nově zapojuje i Cyrilometodějská stezka (Česká republika). Projekt HIKE4ALL navazuje na úspěšný projekt HIKE, který probíhal v letech 2024–2025 v Itálii, Řecku a Turecku. Nový, 12měsíční projekt s celkovým rozpočtem 300 000 eur, koordinovaný Evropskou asociací tras Via Francigena (EAVF), významně rozšiřuje své pole působnosti a zapojuje celkem šest evropských kulturních tras.

Tento nový projekt klade velký důraz na dostupnost, inkluzi a rovnocennou účast, otevírá pěší turistiku a kulturní aktivity i pro osoby s postižením, speciálními potřebami a zranitelné skupiny. Akce, workshopy, zpřístupňování tras a iniciativy související s pohodou a udržitelností zapojí komunity a regiony po celé Evropě, čímž se posílí sociální dopad projektu.

Throughout 2026, six long-weekend events will be organised, one in each partner country, including an event in the Czech Republic on the Cyril and Methodius Route in the Zlín Region. You can follow all project updates on the official HIKE website.

Ve dnech 8.–9. prosince 2025 hostila Národní knihovna sv. Cyrila a Metoděje v Sofii Národní vědeckou konferenci s mezinárodní účastí “Abeceda, paměť, kontinuita”, která spojila přední vědce a odborníky z Bulharska, Itálie, Islandu, Norska, Arménie a Švédska.

Within two days, the lecturers presented topics related to the new life of the old letters: young generations in the humanities - projects, digital platforms, electronic publications; the historical context of the Glagolitic and Cyrillic alphabets: unresolved issues in history; the revision of sources; scientific and popular mythologemes.

Individuální sezení se zabývala širokou škálou témat, včetně: Hlaholice v umění; písma, kulturní paměť a literární tradice; literární a dokumentární dědictví – identity a evropské projekce. Akce se konala pod záštitou místopředsedkyně Bulharské republiky Iliany Jotovové.

Dne 10. prosince 2025, v rámci oslav 147. výročí Národní knihovny “ sv. sv. Cyrila a Metoděje ” v Sofii, instituce představila poutavou výstavu s názvem “Příběhy doby hlaholice”. Je organizována s laskavou podporou Státního kulturního institutu při Ministerstvu zahraničních věcí, Institutu pro bulharský jazyk “Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin” při Bulharské akademii věd a kurátorem prof. Yavor Miltenovem.

Výstava zobrazuje nové poznatky o paralelní existenci hlaholice a cyrilice po delší dobu v bulharských dějinách a zve návštěvníky, aby se seznámili s bohatstvím a složitostí raných tradic slovanského písma. Odhalením vzácných obrazů rukopisů a kontextových příběhů ze středověkých pramenů autor podtrhuje trvalý kulturní význam slovanské gramotnosti a její kořeny v díle svatých Cyrila a Metoděje. Součástí výstavy jsou také faksimilie Rilských hlaholských listů, pocházejících z konce 10. nebo začátku 11. století.

Evropská kulturní cesta sv. Cyrila a Metoděje is an interest association of legal entities based in the Czech Republic, founded in 2013. It promotes the living Cyrillo-Methodian legacy and values based on respect and dialogue between people of different cultures and faiths. As a cultural tourism product, the Cyril and Methodius Route was awarded the title of a  Cultural Route of the Council of Europe in 2021. The Association European Cultural Route of Sts. Cyril and Methodius is responsible for its management and marketing.

The Cultural Routes programme, launched by the Council of Europe in 1987, demonstrates in a visible way, by means of a journey through space and time, how the heritage of the different countries and cultures of Europe represent a shared cultural heritage. The Cultural Routes support the mission of the Council of Europe in promoting democracy, human rights and the rule of law across Europe and beyond. They promote awareness of Europe’s common heritage and put into practice cultural democracy and cultural diversity, dialogue, and mutual exchange across boundaries and centuries within Europe as well as with other countries and regions. As of 2025, there are 49 certified Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (www.coe.int/routes).
